My Word for 2025
Each year, I choose a word to guide me—a lens through which I focus my intentions and actions. For 2025, my word is Trustfall. Inspired by Pink’s song of the same name, Trustfall is about leaning into bravery, embracing vulnerability, and trusting the unknown (and something bigger).
Pink’s music resonates deeply with me, and I had the amazing opportunity to see her show last October. In the song, she asks, “What if we just fall?”—a question that cuts to the heart of what it means to take risks and live authentically. This year, I’m stepping into the unknown with big plans for my business, my family, and my personal growth, and Trustfall is my compass.
The Power of a Word
Why choose a single word to guide your year? A word can serve as an anchor, bringing clarity and focus during moments of doubt. Unlike a long list of resolutions, a word is adaptable—it grows with you – as well as reminds you of deep intentions.
Pink’s perspective resonates here: “You can’t be great if you’re not willing to be uncomfortable and vulnerable.” Vulnerability and discomfort are often the price of growth, but they’re also the seeds of authenticity and success. For me, Trustfall encourages me to leap when I’m unsure, to share my voice even when I feel vulnerable, and to embrace opportunities for growth.
How Trustfall Fits My Goals for 2025
Here’s where Trustfall will shape my journey this year:
- Expanding My Speaking and Workshops: I’m unveiling new opportunities through Anavah Consulting LLC, bringing topics like thriving, environmental identity, and connected leadership into focus. These moments require courage—stepping into new arenas and trusting my expertise.
- Exploring Environmental Identity: This concept examines how our connection to nature is influenced by early life and our choices as independents. Diving deeper into this work means embracing the unknown, trusting the process, and envisioning a possible future, much like Pink’s lyrics, “Picture a place where it all doesn’t hurt.”
- Sharing Grapevine: A Mother and Daughter’s Tangled Journey Through an Eating Disorder: My daughter and I are eager to share more about our journey through her eating disorder and recovery. Speaking about such a personal experience is its own kind of trustfall, but we know it can inspire hope and change. Our first event is January 12th!
Each of these endeavors requires me to “fall” into trust: trust in myself, trust in others, and trust in the importance of this work.
Ideas for Readers
Here’s how you can bring courage, authenticity, and growth into your year:
1. Choose Your Word for the Year
- Reflect on what you need most right now: growth, rest, joy or resilience? What word encapsulate that need?
- Look for inspiration in art, music, or conversations. For me, Pink’s Trustfall hit home.
- Mediate. Spend time breathing and letting the word emerge from your body.
- Keep it simple. A single, resonate word will serve you better than a long phrase.
2. Start Your Day with Your Word
- Begin each morning with a brief meditation or reflection on your word. Visualize how it might show up in your day ahead.
- Write your word somewhere visible – on a sticky note, your phone background, or a journal (in my case, the top of my day’s planning page) – to keep in present in your mind.
- Set an intention that aligns with your word, like “Today, I will rust my instincts” or “I’ll be open to opportunities.”
3. Embrace Your Word Throughout the Year
- Create small rituals tied to your word. For example:
- With my word Trustfall, I can practice leaning into situations where I feel unsure or afraid, starting with low-stakes challenges.
- If your word is Joy, commit to finding one thing each day that makes you smile or laugh.
- Schedule quarterly check-ins. Reflect on how your word is influencing your actions and note adjustments to be made.
4. Capture Your Word in Action
- Keep a journal or note on your phone to track moments when your word shows up unexpectedly or when you intentionally practice it.
- Celebrate progress, even if it’s small. If you leaned into vulnerability, write about how it felt and what you learned.
- At the end of the year, revisit your reflections to see how your word shaped your journey.
Leaping into 2025 with Courage
As I embrace Trustfall, I hope to inspire others to find their own word and take their own leaps of faith. Pink’s words remind me that, “The idea of ‘Trustfall’ is that, no matter how terrifying or difficult life feels, you have to trust that you’ll land on your feet.”
Whether it’s stepping out of your comfort zone, starting something new, or simply showing up authentically, this year is an opportunity to trust yourself and the journey ahead.
